About Dennis:
Dennis Hwang is the lead author for the Homeowner’s Handbook to Prepare for Natural Hazards which started in Hawaiʻi and is now in 14 States and Countries. The Hawaiʻi Handbook has over 25 partners, including the DLNR Engineering Division, which has been a partner since 2007. Mr. Hwang recently finished the Handbook for the Federated State of Micronesia and is now working to update the Hawai'i Handbook to the 5th edition which will include lessons learned from the Lahaina wildfire.

Aloha Safe Homes – Whole Community
This talk will cover a project with the Hawai'i Emergency Management Agency and FEMA to change community behavior over time so that people are more prepared for natural hazards. Top down and bottom-up education and outreach strategies are employed to reach the different behavioral groups in the community and move them to a more resilient future.
