Following the deadly August 2023 Maui wildfires (DR-4724) which burned 6,721 acres and resulted in the loss of 2,173 structures, the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Building Science Disaster Support Program (BSDS), in conjunction with FEMA Region 9 and supported by the Strategic Alliance for Risk Reduction (STARR II), provided specialized architectural and engineering expertise through its Mitigation Assessment Team (MAT) to assess building performance; develop customized Recovery Advisories; provide tailored training and subject matter expertise; and document observations, conclusions, and recommendations.
Through the MAT’s work with local agencies, field investigations, and data analyses, the “Maui Wildfires – Mitigation Assessment Team Compendium Report P-2425 (May 2025)” has been prepared and now available on FEMA’s website at: https://www.fema.gov/sites/default/files/documents/fema_rsl_p2425_maui-mat-compendium_06052025.pdf
